Fitness is a rapidly improving industry with many alternatives now provided for men and women looking to get and stay fit. Pilates and yoga have recently gained popularity for their holistic, wide-ranging health and beauty benefits. Dancing is also becoming a more popular way to burn fat and stay in great cardiovascular condition. When fused effectively by a professional, these three areas of fitness combined can offer incredible strength, cardiovascular and flexibility benefits together in one workout!
Pilates core strength-focused exercises not only provide practitioners with leaner, sculpted torsos and fantastic-looking abs: they also help alleviate and prevent back pain and injury, improve posture, provide you with greater range of motion and mobility throughout the body, improve your athletic performance, and offer many levels of challenge as you increase your strength.
Yoga is a holistic way of life involving attention to what, when and how you consume, move, treat others and contribute to the world. Most yoga classes in Toronto focus on the physical postures; removing tension from the body, opening channels toward meditation, increasing your breath and energy flow, and relaxing the body and mind. The added benefit of practicing yogic postures is the increase in flexibility, improvement of posture, prevention and care of injuries, lengthening of muscles, and remarkable stress relief.
Dancing is a fantastic way to get fit and have fun at the same time. It can improve your cardiovascular and muscular endurance, sculpt lengthened muscles, build strength and mobility throughout the body, increase your confidence and self-esteem, and provide stress relief. Ballet, contemporary/modern and jazz dance developed into fitness classes are also wonderful for building your balance, posture, coordination, self-expression and presence, all while learning technique that can help even a non-dancer improve their athletic performance.
The benefits of these three forms of movement combined into one class provide a holisitc workout that involves building deep core and limb strength, improving your cardiovascular endurance through the most fun kind of interval training, and increasing your flexibility and energy flow.
Fitness Class Tip: Knowing what you are looking to get out of any fitness class is as important as the atmosphere, instructor and other class members. So before signing up for a workout class or even looking for one, first decide what it is you want to get out of the experience. Technique? A workout? Both? And at what levels? Then begin your search.
Stretch and Strength Classes, combining Pilates and Yoga mat work, with multiple strength training exercises built in. Popular with both men and women who would like to build total body strength, balance and flexibility.
Dance Fit Classes, with a Pilates core warm up, Dance strength exercises, free Dance, Jazz for Level 1, Ballet and Modern for Level II, and a Yoga cool-down. For those who want to increase their cardiovascular and muscular endurance, burn fat, sculpt long, lean muscles, improve their balance and coordination, as well as have more fun!
Why are we providing this combination of Pilates, Dance and Yoga?
Pilates core strengthening exercises not only help improve your looks with a leaner torso and tight abdominals; the strength they develop greatly decreases back pain and improves postural alignment and body plane harmony. Plus great looking abs.
Dance techniques, Ballet and modern dance in particular, sculpt and strengthen the legs in a way no other fitness regimen can, and also improve balance, co-ordination, posture, alignment and body plane harmony. Dancing is also one of the most fun ways to improve cardiovascular endurance and burn fat.
Yogasanas (Yoga poses) offer unduplicated flexibility improvement and tension and stress release, and also contribute to improved alignment and body plane harmony.
The individual and overlapping advantages of these three techniques make Turning Point Fitness’s unique body conditioning system so effective and fun. Welcome to Turning Point Fitness!
Imagine the benefits of diverse conditioning techniques combined into one fitness class! Shuffling between different locations or gym time slots to get your strength, cardio and flexibility training in? Why not try classes that combine the benefits of each type of training within each session?
Awaken the Body Warm up to loosen the torso & limbs and lubricate joints. Breathe and infuse your body with energy.
Build Core Strength This supports any activity you do, including sitting, walking, playing sports, dancing. It’s important for anyone to have abdominal, lower back and hip strength & stability. Your core is your primary posture support: core exercises should be central to any exercise program. A strong core and proper postural alignment also improve your balance, power and appearance, as well as how others perceive your confidence level. The most important element for most people is the look of sexy abs and the reduction or eradication of chronic back pain.
Create Body Plane Harmony Ensuring the planes of your body, upper, lower, right and left, and combinations of these, are balanced in terms of size, strength and flexibility is integral to minimizing pain and improving stability. Exercises that use different body plane combinations help build equilibrium, which is so important because body plane imbalances plus lack of core strength are major causes of chronic injuries and resulting pain.
Develop Long, Sculpted Muscles Classical dance exercises, more than any other type of movement, help develop long, lean musculature as opposed to a bulkier look. From your feet upward, dance exercises sculpt the muscles, improve alignment, and can fix balance problems caused by weak arch support, poor joint alignment, and underdevelopment of the smaller deep muscles that maintain your stability from head to toe.
Move the Spirit Moving to music, whether through exercise or dance, helps release tension, which can prohibit full motion of the body. It can infuse you with energy, help you take the focus off of the everyday problems you face outside the studio, and help you have more fun! Dancing is especially great for developing cardiovascular and muscular endurance, power and strength. It burns fat while you improve your coordination and musicality – and have a great time! A joyful spirit is integral to health.
Release Tension Stretching is something that people often don’t like to do or make time for, but it makes you feel so much better afterward! Whether or not you believe in the healing power of tension release in the muscles, it is hard to deny that a good, healthy stretch with some deep breathing feels great! After warming up the body and then working the muscles, deep breathing and stretching out the tension should not be an extra part of your health regimen, but an integral part of it! Stress relief is so important.
